Haitian Art Society Conference in Haiti 

Tentative dates:November 12-21, 2010

Here is a revised itinerary, as of October 2009, reflecting the input of Fritz Racine. As always feedback is appreciated

Day 1- Sunday:

Arrive in Port-Au-Prince from Miami early afternoon. Bus to Caribe Hotel in Juvenat, Pétion-Ville. Have a few rhum punches and chill, soak up the vibes. Dinner at the hotel.

Day 2- Monday: 

9:00 am bus to Centre d’Art, Galerie Issa, visit to Nader Museum in Desprez, and lunch at Plaza Hotel. In the afternoon, visit to Mupanah (Musée du Pantheon National), Musée du College Saint-Pierre (Haitian Museum of Art), and Trinity Cathedral to view the Murals. Back to hotel 5-6pm for the night.

Day 3- Tuesday:

9:30 am bus to Pétion-Ville. Visit to Galerie Monnin, Galerie Nader, Marassa gallery, Festival Art, Atelier Jerome, Expression  Gallery, Grim Gallery, Jen-Claude LeGagneur gallery. Lunch in Pétion-Ville at Papaye restaurant or Oasis Hotel. After lunch, revisit gallery of your choice. 5-6 pm back to Hotel.

Day 4- Wednesday:

9:30 am Bus to downtown to visit the sculptors of the “Grand Rue” artists, drive by the Iron Market, then visit the studio of artist Lionel St. Eloi, visit flag maker in Belair. Back to hotel around 2:00pm. Free afternoon, rhum punches by the pool.

Day 5- Thursday:

9:30pm Bus to Croix–des-Bouquets to visit metal sculptor artists: Serge Jolimeau, the Balan Brothers, Gabriel Biene-Aime R. Derosiers, and the “Association des Artistes et Artisans de Croix-des-Bouquets”. Visit George Liautaud museum, and talk with Barbara Prézeau, responsible of museum. Then back to the hotel for dinner. At 9:00pm bus to Hotel Olofson for a show by “RAM,” very well-known musical band. Back to Caribe Hotel after midnight.

Day 6- Friday:

Leave at 7:00am for Jacmel. Tour galleries: Bob Bricston’s House, Selden Rodman’s former House (now Florita Hotel), Art Creation Foundation For Children, College Suisse. Visit carnival mask makers, artist Didier Civil and many other small galleries in Jacmel. Check into Hotel Cap Lamandou. Dinner and rest.

Day 7- Saturday:

Free day in Jacmel. Walk on the beach, visit galleries, sit by the pool. Go to Vodou ceremony at night if desired.

Day 8- Sunday:

8:00am, bus leaves for Port-au-Prince, stopping at ZKlub, restaurant and studio of Frantz Zephirin, painter, in Mariani, by the sea. Visit at “The Temple” Max Beauvoir’s home in Mariani. Lunch with BBQ and fresh fish washed down with ice cold Prestige beer, while looking across the bay at the mountains to the north and the impossibly white clouds. All while we are surrounded by art.  Back to the Caribe Hotel for dinner.

Day 9- Monday:

Bus leaves at 9:00am for visit of private collection of Ingénieur Lionel DuValcin, Dr. Ronald LaRoche, Maitre Henry Céant in LaBoule. Then, to Jacki and Nicole Lumarque, and Jose Hermantin down Pétion-Ville. Go down to hotel for lunch around 2:00pm. Rest of the day to pack and revisit galleries if desired.

Day 10- Tuesday:

Bus to airport. Leave Haiti.
